Deep Web

What is the darknet or deep web?

The Darknet is often confused with the deep web which refers part of the Internet which cannot be indexed by search engines like Google. The dark web aka ‘the darknet’ is a small part of the deep web. Most importantly of all the Deep Web is Anonymous Internet. Web users and website publishers are entirely anonymous. Whilst large government agencies are theoretically able to track some people within this anonymous space, it is very difficult, requires a huge amount of resources, and isn’t always successful.

DarkNet

Despite being associated with criminal mischief, drugs, and various other illegal activities most of the hidden web contains nothing remotely sinister. The Deep Web is comprised mostly of databases/libraries, and exclusive members-only sites that are not available to the general public. By majority the darknet is composed of academic resources maintained by universities.

How To Surf the DarkNet

When you access the pedestrian Internet , you are directly communicating with websites. Accessing a website via TOR is almost like asking another tor user to fetch webpage information for you. These communications bounce around to different computers and consequently makes tracking who is viewing a particular website rather difficult. As a result, the Tor internet browser can be ridiculously slow.

The Dark web was pioneered by the US Navy as means to communicate coded messages anonymously. Federal and foreign governments alike rely on the privacy of the Dark Web to communicate sensitive information safely.
